These forums are intended to explore current issues and hot topics. They are also an opportunity to update members with campaign news and engage with our Champion members on forthcoming campaign activities and priorities.
An outline of the day
During the Race Champions’ Forum there will be a presentation on the top line findings from the pay and ethnicity consultation from a BEIS official. This session will also provide a preview of new Race at Work insight to be released in a follow up report in March which will contrast responses by ethnic group and from employees from large and small organisations. There will also be a preview of the Race at Work Charter tracker survey 2019 which will replace the Best Employers for Race survey.
The Gender session will explore removing bias, Gender Pay Gap Reporting, and will feature impact stories from Sky and Fujitsu. Gender stereotypes shape decision-making process with regards to recruitment, performance appraisals and promotions. 80% of female workers still believe that gender discrimination in the workplace exists. The evidence exists – research shows that when performance is observable, successful women are rated as less likeable than men. When evaluators know nothing except the candidate’s gender, men are about twice as likely to be hired as women. Yet according to Iris Bohnet, diversity training programmes largely don’t change attitudes, let alone behaviour. So what can we do to truly remove bias from our processes?
There will be a networking lunch in between the sessions.
This event is by invitation only and is free for Champion members of the Race and Gender campaigns.
